  • Turmeric is a spicy, lively, rhizomatous spice, the aerial stems of which can reach a height of one meter. It has broad, long petiolate, oval or lanceolate leaves, light green in color. The flowers can have different colors depending on the varieties, purplish yellowish, etc., and are arranged in cylindrical, concave spikes, generally green, from whose armpits the flowers are born.

    The main rhizome is fleshy (Turmeric rhizome), ovate, pear-shaped (round turmeric) and from this come other secondary, elongated, somewhat cylindrical and tender rhizomes (turmeric longa), which, once prepared, has an aroma reminiscent of ginger and burning and bitter taste.
